Neonatal Program

Why are our puppies so advanced? Learn more about the neonatal program used at Alta-Tollhaus.

Early Neurological Stimulation & Early Scent Introduction

Our puppies receive a variety of stimulation, socialization, and care beginning at birth. For nearly two decades Alta-Tollhaus has been applying the Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS) or Bio Sensor (also referred to as Neonatal Neuro Stimulation) Program with all of our puppies. Beginning the day after birth, we use early neurological stimulation, which involves handling neonatal puppies in a variety of positions in order to help stimulate and develop their neurological systems, increase stress tolerance, promote stronger heart beats, immune system, and adrenal glands. Many visitors to Alta-Tollhaus have helped us perform the neuro stimulation with the neonate puppies.

As of January, 2014, Alta-Tollhaus has expanded our Neonatal Stimulation Program to include Early Scent Introduction (ESI). It is quite fun and very interesting to watch the neonates use their olfactory perception to explore the world from their whelping box.

Here is an 18-minute long webinar by Gayle Watkins PhD, the breeder who developed the program.
